Motorcycle Accident Content

Experiencing the freedom of the open road on a motorcycle is a very liberating ride. Feeling the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin. In the blink of an eye, serious injuries may happen. Prevention is key to any accident, wearing a helmet will increase the odds of survival, however, being alert is the best remedy. There are five main causes for a motorcycle accident: road hazards, impaired driving, lane splitting, side-impact collisions, and head-on collisions. Be aware of road hazards. Concrete that is slippery from rain poses a huge chance for the motorcycle to slip. Check the weather before heading out on the road. Impaired driving is a leading cause of motorcycle accidents. If another motorist was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, their ability to drive safely is significantly lowered, therefore posing a very large risk to motorcyclists. Always avoid driving any vehicle while being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Lane splitting is when motorcyclists change lanes constantly between cars in traffic, typically slow moving traffic. A common practice among motorcyclists that is highly risky, motorists switching lanes in slow traffic may not anticipate a motorcycle cutting through traffic and an accident can occur. Unfortunately, motorcycles do not protect the rider from injuries, not engaging in motorcycle lane splitting is best to avoid injury. Be aware of distracted motorists, especially to avoid side-impact collisions and head-on collisions. Side-impact collisions can occur when the distracted motorist is trying to overtake another vehicle or pass another car. In this case be very vigilant of side mirrors and traffic flow. Head-on collisions occur when avoidance of the distracted motorist is too late or that motorist does not allow for the motorcyclist to have the right-of-way. If you may be entitled to compensation due to a motorcycle accident, do not let your accident expenses get in the way of your day to day life.
